Together we overcame

I had been a fairly decent student in my last school but joining a new school was an all together new experience. I had been studying in a Hindi medium school until now and the move to a English medium was a very big hurdle for me. Even though I could both write and read English so that was not a problem. It’s the other subjects that bothered me. The jump from Hindi to a English medium school is a very big change for any student. So in this new school I found myself surrounded by a new set of batch mates  and  subjects which appeared alien. This new system of studies was very different to understand and comprehend. I was clearly at a loss during all the classes and found it very difficult to complete the home work. My teachers saw this as lack of interest and initiative and labelled me as a back bencher. It felt very insulting and I did not know what to do. However hard I tried to study I failed. Day by day I was losing my sleep and appetite and even my health began to show signs of the strain and I started looking very pale and sickly. My parents also got very concerned. Then one day my class teacher who was considered to be very strict called me to the staff room . She asked me very lovingly what the matter was and what was bothering me and why my grades were suffering. I told her everything. She was silent for a while lost in her thoughts and then she said we can workout a solution for you. She said since she was a maths and science teacher She would be able to help me in these subjects. She offered to give me two hours everyday after school so that I could clear my doubts and she would help me in my transition from a Hindi to an English medium school. Unlike her strict exterior which she maintained in class I found her to be very understanding and receptive. She would help me understand the basics of the subjects and clear my doubts. She helped me create shortcuts to understand and remember the formulas. With quite a bit of hard work my grades began to improve and I was no longer considered a back bencher in this school. I found her to be a great inspiration who always gave me the hope that I can get good marks in all subjects.  With this renewed optimism my self esteem and confidence began to improve and I started loving studying hard and intelligently. She became my favorite teacher and books my best friend. It was thanks to the time spent #together with my class teacher that helped me find a warm helpful person and a mentor who guided me to discover and bring out my inner potential and strength.
